문준용: Augmented Shadow

이번 전시는 문준용이 고안해 낸 ‘Augmented Shadow’의 기술을 이용한 시리즈 중 하나인 별을 쫓는 그림자들을 선보임으로써 몰입형 공간 속 인터렉티브 미디어 아트의 세계로 안내한다. 이번 전시의 초대작가인 문준용은 자기 자신을 예술가이자 기술가라고 명명한다. 그는 기술과 예술을 융합하여 영상 인터페이스 환경에 이야기를 담은 새로운 실감형 미디어아트를 만들고자 했고, 그 완성이 바로 Augmented Shadow 시리즈이다. 특수 제작한 장치인 트래커(Tracker)를 통해 관람객의 위치를 감지하여 관객이 움직이는 각도에 따라 물체의 실재 그림자에 가상 그림자를 매핑하는 실험적 예술을 선보인다.

By employing the Tracker, a specially designed device, Moon detects the audience's position and guides them through a world of experimental art, mapping virtual shadows to the actual shadows of objects as the audience moves.

영상 투사로 가득 채운 몰입형 전시 공간 속에서, 공간 전체의 명암과 그림자가 자신이 들고 있는 트래커 속 빛에 의해 움직이기 때문에 관객은 가상공간에 들어간 듯한 실재감을 느낀다. 여기저기서 관객을 부르는 그림자들을 관객이 찾아내고, 다가가면 이야기가 다음 단계로 진행된다. 해당 작품은 빛, 그림자, 입체 착시, 몰입환경 등 모든 인터페이스가 서사의 일부가 되도록 만들어졌다. 관객은 빛을 통해 이야기 속 등장인물들과 직접 만나며 교감하며 관객의 완전한 몰입을 경험하게 된다.
Augmented Shadow Series is an interactive technology devised by Joonyong Moon and refers to devices and experiences that implement augmented reality using shadows. This device(called Tracker) detects the audience’s moving position so that it makes augmented reality by mapping virtual shadows to the actual shadows. Between Reality and Virtual reality, Chasing Stars in Shadow shows a story about shadow kids who come and go between 2D and 3D. In conjunction with the story, Augmented Shadow technique creates an optical illusion, making the flat shadows appear three-dimensional to the viewer.
The audience’s light in the Tracker moves the shade and shadows of an immersive projection environment. it makes audiences feels they are standing within virtual space. It is an interactive narrative in which the story progresses to next stages when the viewer finds and approaches the shadows who call him here and there. The story was written so that all interfaces such as the viewer's light, the shadows, the optical illusion, and the immersive environment could be incorporated into the narrative. It intended the viewer to be engaged completely in the narrative.
